Preparing the material:
All of the cards are meant to be laminated (recommended laminate thickness: 90-125 micron).
The individual cards need to be cut out.
Sides not to be laminated: none
Sides or cards to be bound into a booklet: none

Teaching content:
The children can practice and memorize the basic number facts of the four rules.

Free time activity, individual work, pair work, small group work

Before you begin:
To work with this material, the children require:
a desk, a mat or a felt board, possibly Montessori working charts
The cards should be kept in a box, classified according to the four rules and kept in order using the dividers.

How to use:
The children can select a rule and lay out all of the possible equations, then their answers. At first they can work sequentially, then in a random order.
It is also possible to start from 'answers' to find equations, which prepares the child to work with the opposite rule.
Children can work in pairs.
They need to keep the equations in the correct order in the box.
This material helps children to gradually memorize the facts that they will need when calculating without material.

Control of Error:
The results of the equations are on the reverse of the cards.

This material can be used together with Montessori working charts.
The advantage of this material over the original material is the size of the cards and ease of use. The cards can be arranged and sorted easily, which means the children can be given very specific activities.
The cards also have the solution on the reverse side allowing the children to check their work themselves.

A very competent child can also take all the equations of one rule (without their answer) and lay them out in order of value. For addition the pattern of a delta wing will appear, for subtraction and for division, that of a wall. Multiplication facts are most effectively ordered along a meter ruler using the corners of the cards as pointers.
