Age 7-11, 12-13
Contributors Translation: Paul Read
manual Recommended Age (s): 8-13 years
Preparing the material: Photocopy as many sides as required onto red card. The copies then need to be laminated and cut.
Not laminated, the cards can be used to create a fraction booklet.
Teaching content: Familiarization with fractions ('Divided Circle')
Possible Applications: This material is for using together with the other fractions material.
Before you begin: To work with this material, the children require:
a desk (a floor mat is less suitable), 'Fractions Parts 1 and 2', the Montessori fraction circles (possibly also the fraction circles stands), paper or an exercise book, glue, scissors and stationery with which to write
How to use: This material is very clear and easy to work with. The material leads the child through each exercise. The children can follow the instructions for working with the fractions, and later note down what they have done. The templates are meant to be cut out, and laid out or glued.
Control of Error: The children lay the fractions of the circle on the corresponding places on the cards. Should the children work with the metal circle fractions, control of error is clear. On each of the cards with equations is a little note, which states the number of the card with the solutions.
Additional information: A special tool for cutting out circles is available from the following website:
