Age 4-5, 5-6
Brief description  There is an index card for each letter, which shows the letter as a tangram figure. Tangram as a template;
manual Scope: The material consists of:
26 A5 index cards with the letters AZ as a tangram figure (whereby it is visible how to lay), 1 cover sheet, 1 copy template for tangram puzzles, 1 A4 poster with the letters AZ (whereby it is not visible how to lay)
Recommended school level (s): No specific age specification (but especially for 1st-2nd grade)
Manufacturing: Laminate the sheets (recommended film thickness: 90-125 microns).
First cut off the protruding laminating edge and then cut the A4 page in half exactly in the middle - each gives 2 A5 index cards.
Copy the master copy onto colored cardboard, laminate it, cut out the 7 parts of the tangram and store it in a sachet or box.
Copy the template onto colored cardboard, do not laminate and make it available to the children as "handicraft material".
Pages not to be laminated: none
Pages or cards bound in a booklet: none
Content / curriculum reference: Here the child gets to know geometric figures.
 The spatial imagination is trained.
Possible uses: Use in free work, in individual work or in partner work. Sometimes the puzzle can be used as part of a station operation ("letter day").
Preparations: To work with this material, the children also need:
A work carpet or a felt tray, possibly a wooden tangram (better than the cardboard tangram), glue and scissors for your own booklets or figures
How it works: The children lay a tangram figure using the template on the index card. Then you can cut out the tangram pieces and add the previously placed figure with the paper pieces and then stick them in a booklet.
Depending on the spatial imagination, the index cards are used or only the tangram figures are worked with, where it is not visible how to lay (A4 card).
Self-control: Self-control is carried out by the material itself (index cards).
Experiences, tips, tips: Working on puzzles is very interesting and challenging for many children. The spatial orientation is particularly addressed in the Tangram. The letter templates are particularly good to offer in a first grade.
In addition, of course, other tangram figures can also be offered. There is a large selection of books with figures in different levels of difficulty. Experience has shown that these tasks, including the “easy ones”, are very demanding for most school beginners. - Therefore I designed the index cards of the ABC Tangram with the outlined parts for this age group.
Of course, the children can also invent their own characters and then record them in their booklets.
On the download page of ws-montessori you can find a small program with which you can create your own tangram figures or recreate pre-defined figures.
