Article description
Charles Darwin's discoveries were revolutionary. He traveled around the world for five years on a research ship and discovered unique tortoises, finches, and mockingbirds on the Galapagos Islands. His theory of evolution states that animals adapt to their environment in their natural struggle for food. This selection led to a change in species over generations. Darwin believed that individual species evolve and are not simply created, as written in the Bible. The research set allows for a quick introduction to the study of Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace. Children can find information in the storybooklets, then place a chronological order on the BC/AD timeline and overlay Charles Darwin's world journey on a large map with arrows. The work with the models of the Galapagos animals is exciting. What are these animals called? Why was the observation of these animals so important? Do these animals still live on the islands today? etc.
