Sand letters (sandpaper letters) serve the development and training of hand-eye coordination and the preparation for reading and writing.

Due to advancing digitalization, the process of handwriting is under significant pressure. However, handwriting is an important or even very important skill
Development of hand-eye coordination. Connection of sound and written symbols through hearing, seeing, and feeling.
Preparation of word formation, reading, and writing.
Children feel the letters, experience the typical course and shape of each letter by tracing the sand line.
Use:
for children who are sensitive to language and show interest in letters, usually from 3 years old. But also applicable in many other areas, as these letters are also used in migration training.
Methodical - didactic notes
After various language games in which the child identifies sounds of our language, the educator selects a sandpaper letter and runs their index and middle fingers over the letter several times, and the child does the same. Then the educator pronounces the letter sound, the child repeats the sound, and the educator names some words that begin with this sound. This process continues with a second and third letter that differ significantly in sound and shape. The second and third stages of the three-stage lessons follow.
Second stage / further exercises:
- the child feels familiar letters with closed eyes and searches for words with the initial sound
- the child brings the sandpaper letter to a child whose name contains the sound or to an object in the room
- small objects are sorted by initial sound, medial sound, and final sound
- the child selects a letter and calls all the children whose names begin with or contain this sound to them
- words of animals, etc. are being searched for that start with 'E' - the corresponding figures (miniatures) or pictures are assigned.
Third stage: The educator asks the child for the name of the letter.
