Adam Ries is a German calculating master. In his time, Roman numerals were still very common in Germany. In our booklet "The Giant Among the Calculating Masters," Axel Winkler tells the story of Adam Ries from Annaberg, a mathematical hero. Adam Ries developed his own counting board, on which one could calculate quickly with hellers and pfennigs.
