This work by Maria Montessori (1870-1952) has an undisputed place in world educational literature. It first appeared 100 years ago in 1909. It reported on a new pedagogy that Montessori had developed for ten to six-year-old children after ten years of scientific preparatory work in her facility founded in Rome in 1907. Maria Montessori has continued to develop her pedagogy throughout her life and has therefore repeatedly revised her main script. The last fifth edition she got was published in 1948. It forms the basis of this scientifically sound edition of the work. All important texts of previous editions are also included in an appendix. This is the first time that readers of this study edition have been able to get an idea of the developments in the thinking of the world-famous pedagogue and to discover new facets and accents of their pedagogy.
