Montessori materials are NOT toys, but educational materials. Proper use requires appropriate training.
Montessori materials may contain small, rough, sharp, or other elements that could cause injury or damage if used improperly.
It may therefore only be used by children under the supervision of appropriately trained persons and in an appropriate environment.
The introduction of this material represents the child's first contact with quantities. The alternating red and blue colored rods represent the quantities from 1 to 10. The shortest rod (1) is 10 cm, the longest (10) is 100 cm long. When laying out the poles, the child counts the sections from 1 to 10. Once they have learned the numbers, they can give each pole the corresponding symbol. It also discovers the structure of the sequence of digits. Matching digits are used on wooden boards.
