Montessori materials are NOT toys, but educational materials. Proper use requires appropriate training.
Montessori materials may contain small, rough, sharp, or other elements that could cause injury or damage if used improperly.
It may therefore only be used by children under the supervision of appropriately trained persons and in an appropriate environment.
The material consists of a wooden tray (17 x 23 x 2 cm), two boxes with an egg and a ball and a box with a cube. When the child is about eight to nine months old, they can put a wooden egg in an egg cup and take it out again. Placing a wooden ball in a cup is a new experience, however, because the cup has to be reversed so that the ball can be removed. The most difficult exercise is to put the cube in the box. The corners of the cube must now fit exactly in the corners of the box. These activities promote eye-hand coordination. They also invite the child to work with two hands.
