The Multibase abacus builds on the child's work with the small and large bead frames as well as the flat bead frame. This material allows the child to explore number systems beyond base 10 – up to base 16 – and to perform additions, subtractions, and multiplications in these different bases. While working with the Multibase abacus, the child practices recording, reading, and exchanging quantities, while deepening their understanding of place values and the diverse relationships between numbers.
